VSM ABRASIVE BELTS · METALWORKING
VSM abrasive belts for stock removal and surface finishing
VSM abrasive belts differ in grain technology, backing and suitability for stock removal or surface finishing. Start with the workpiece material, machine and desired result; Krückemeyer GmbH will also review the appropriate belt design with you.

Selection criteria
Which VSM abrasive belt suits the material and task?
Start with the material, its initial condition and the target surface: do you need heavy stock removal, edge work or a consistent subsequent finish? VSM AK890Y ACTIROX with shaped ceramic grain is designed for stock removal; VSM XK885Y and XK870X use ceramic grain technology, while KK711X uses aluminium oxide on a robust cloth backing. Then check contact pressure, machine type, backing flexibility, grit, belt dimensions and tracking. Grit number alone describes neither service life nor the resulting surface.

CHOOSING A VSM BELT
Start with the belt you use and the finish you need
If your current belt clogs, misses the target finish or needs frequent replacement, consider more than a different grit. VSM ACTIROX, CERAMICS and aluminium oxide differ in grain construction; individual series also differ in backing, bond and, where applicable, grinding aid. Machine, contact, pressure, workpiece material and initial surface all affect whether a documented product feature helps in your application.
For a converted design, Krückemeyer GmbH processes suitable coated abrasives into abrasive belts. Belt dimensions, backing and joint are checked together with the base material and intended use; the extreme limits of the production range cannot be combined arbitrarily. Tell us which belt you currently use, your material, machine, target finish and specific problem in the enquiry form.

VSM ABRASIVE BELT QUESTIONS
How do VSM ACTIROX and CERAMICS abrasive belts differ?
ACTIROX and CERAMICS are distinct VSM grain technologies. The ACTIROX AK890Y in the range uses geometrically shaped ceramic abrasive grain for high stock removal. The CERAMICS series XK885Y and XK870X are also ceramic abrasive belts, but differ in their specific construction and backing. The appropriate series therefore also depends on the material, contact pressure, machine and target surface. A brand name or grit number alone cannot replace that assessment. Tell us which belt you use now and what you want to change in the machining result.
When is a VSM aluminium oxide abrasive belt an option?
An aluminium oxide abrasive belt can be an option when its documented design fits the task. The catalogue lists VSM KK711X as an aluminium oxide belt with a robust cloth backing; individual products vary in grit and belt format. This does not establish general equivalence with ceramic VSM belts. Compare your current abrasive against the workpiece material, required stock removal, desired surface appearance and machine conditions. For a dependable selection, we review the specific product and your application with you.
What information is needed for a converted VSM abrasive belt?
Provide the exact VSM base material or article currently used, workpiece material, machine, belt width and length, desired surface and the issue in your present process. The backing, running direction and belt joint requirements also matter. Krückemeyer GmbH processes suitable coated abrasives and makes bonded butt joints with a straight or wave cut. The feasible combination of material, dimensions and joint must be checked individually; the extreme production limits cannot be combined arbitrarily.
Why is grit alone insufficient when choosing a VSM abrasive belt?
Grit describes only one part of an abrasive belt. VSM belts also differ in grain technology, cloth backing, bond and, where applicable, grinding aid. Workpiece material, initial surface, machine, contact and pressure affect stock removal, heat generation and surface appearance. The same grit designation therefore does not mean identical performance across different series. If service life or finish misses your target, we review the belt construction and process conditions together before selecting another belt for your application.
